DR. LAURA CHANCHIEN PARAJÓN, MD, MPH

Co-Founder and Strategy Officer

for AMOS Health AND Hope

Eighteen years ago Dr. Laura and her husband Dr. David Parajón co-founded AMOS Health and Hope (AMOS) in Nicaragua, building on the work started more than 50 years ago by Dr. Gustavo Parajón (David’s father). From its inception, AMOS has worked to train health workers in remote areas to provide basic medical care, prevent disease, promote healthy behaviors, and offer spiritual support to vulnerable people in their communities. AMOS also operates the El Samaritano Clinic in a marginalized community in Managua. In addition to her work at AMOS, Dr. Laura teaches community health as faculty at the University of New Mexico and directs the  university’s Office of Community Health. During this past year, Austin Samaritans worked with AMOS to provide a much needed dental clinic at El Samaritano Clinic. In addition, AMOS has assumed operational responsibility for the Villa Guadalupe Clinic; Austin Samaritans has provided major support for this clinic since 2007.
